When I first began my walk with God, I used to think “faith” was something only deeply spiritual people had — the kind of faith you see in people who never seem to doubt or worry. I didn’t realise that faith, at its core, is simply trust.
Faith means trusting God’s heart even when you can’t see His hand. It’s choosing to believe that He is good, even when life feels hard, confusing, or unfair.
What Faith Really Is
Faith is not the absence of questions — it’s the decision to believe in the midst of them, otherwise known as 'now faith'. The Bible says now faith is “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1 - NIV).
That means faith is active. It’s something we practice daily, even when we don’t feel strong.
Faith Grows Over Time
Like any relationship, your faith grows as you spend time with God — through prayer, reading Scripture, and seeing His faithfulness in your everyday life. Some days you’ll feel close to Him; other days you may struggle a little, rest assure that's perfectly alright.
When Faith Feels Weak
If your faith feels small right now, that’s okay. Jesus tells us - "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:20 - NIV).
Final Thought
Know that you don't need to have everything figured out to have faith. Faith is about being willing to take one small step toward God — and trusting that He’ll meet you there. And believe me, He will. Faith is also about understanding that it's okay to ask questions and seek guidance. Doubt does not disqualify you from having faith; instead, it can be a part of your journey toward deeper understanding and trust. God welcomes you no matter where you are in your faith journey. So bring your uncertainties to Him, and you'll find that His love and wisdom are more than enough to guide you.
