Simple Ways to Pray with Confidence

Prayer used to feel awkward for me, no really it did, it felt strange at first.  I didn’t know what to say or if I was “doing it right.”  But the truth is — prayer isn’t about the right words. It’s simply an honest conversation with God.

Keep It Real

God isn’t looking for perfection — He’s looking for connection.  You can pray sitting at your desk, while driving in your car like I do, or lying in bed.  You can whisper, write, or just think the words in your heart.

For example:

“God, I don’t have fancy words today.  I just need You.  Please help me through this moment.”

That’s prayer — simple, sincere, and powerful.

Use the Bible as Your Guide

If you’re unsure what to pray, try reading a Psalm, there are many to choose from.  Many are written as raw, honest conversations with God — full of emotion, doubt, and hope.  Another way to deepen your prayer life is to keep a prayer journal. Writing down your thoughts, concerns, and praises can help you express yourself more clearly and keep track of how God answers your prayers over time.  It’s a simple yet powerful tool to reflect on your spiritual journey and stay connected with God daily.  You can find prayer journals online everywhere.

Set Aside Quiet Time

Even five minutes of stillness can help you feel more connected.  Prayer is less about the length and more about the heart behind it.  Something else you may want to consider is creating a sacred space for your prayer or meditation.  This doesn’t require anything elaborate, just a quiet corner with minimal distractions can make a world of difference.  A dedicated space can help you find a sense of peace, and can help you turn your moments of stillness into something you do daily.

Remember: God Hears You

Even when you feel like your prayers are going nowhere, God listens.  He doesn’t need perfect sentences — He just wants you. Remember, prayer isn’t about saying the right words; it’s about building a relationship.  All it takes is an open heart and honest communication, no matter how broken or unsure you feel.  Every whisper, every thought, and every cry is heard by Him, and He meets you with grace and understanding, even when words fail you.
